Week 5

November 15, 1997

We got up early and Eric cooked bacon and eggs for breakfast while I took pictures of the birds. They were so beautiful!!!! After we ate and got ready, we went to Lawrence (aka Irish) and Kathy’s house. I got to meet their two boys, Scott and Sam.

After a little visit, we headed to Echo Point to see the Three Sisters. They are huge!!!! The weather was great so we had no trouble seeing them. After taking a few pictures, we walked down the stairs to the first sister. The stairway goes down to the valley and is a total of 1,000 stairs. Thank God we didn’t go all the way down!!!! We grabbed an ice cream on our way to the scenic railway.

The scenic railway is the world’s steepest incline railway at 52 degrees. It was steep!!! Great view from it though, the mountains looked great!! We drove along to the tree marked by the first explorers. Then we went on to the Hydro Majestic. That place is a beautiful old building, but they had some crazy ideas about medicine and health spas!!! hehehe We then went to several lookouts, and took our lunch (a burger & fries and a chico roll & seafood roll) to Govett’s Leap. We stopped and took some pix of a few Warratahs in the wild. Then went for a nice drive along the Megalong Valley.

We went and got Lawrence and Kathy and the kids and brought them to our hut for a cuppa. After a visit there, we went back to their house for a barbecue. The food was great!!! We had a nice visit after supper and looked through our pictures. Lawrence and Kathy are really nice!! I was glad I got to meet them.

November 16, 1997

I had fruit for breakfast, but Eric opted for leftover Chinese. We said our goodbyes to the birds and headed to Jenolan Caves. We left at about 11:30am and got there at about 1:10pm.

The Grand Arch is very impressive!! We were in Lucas Cave by 1:30. Lucas Cave was really beautiful!!!! I especially liked the Cathedral, the lace curtain, and the broken column. The colors in the cave were really nice ranging from rust to pink to white. The temperature was cool and comfortable in the cave. Our tour lasted about an hour and a half.

After the tour of Lucas Cave, we went to Jenolan Cabins where we were staying for the night. The cabin was nice, but it lacked the quaint charm of the mud hut. It did however have an interesting feature, the rota-loo. A rota-loo is an environmentally friendly toilet and over a nine month period of time, the contents form compost. It doesn’t have water and there is no flushing, but it surprisingly doesn’t smell!! hehehe A bit breezy though!!!

The view from our cabin was really nice. We could see the Hydro Majestic and at night, the lights from Katoomba. the cliffs looked really nice with the sun hitting them in the evening and we took some pix. I hope they turn out alright. Just down from the hill we were on, we saw a mob of roos. They were cute and were boxing and kicking each other. We videoed the roos. At night their was a full moon and it was beautiful!!!!

November 17, 1997

We started the day with a tour of the Orient Cave. It was really pretty and contains the Stalagtites that are shown on the emblem of the caves. There were also heligtites which defy gravity and can make some interesting formations. The stage in this cave was really nicer than the one in Lucas Cave and this cave had a feature called Hercules that was a HUGE stalagmite.

We went to Mount Tomah Botanic Gardens, a branch of the Royal Botanic Gardens. It was very pretty!! We had a nice wander around then went inside for lunch.

Eric took me to the Panthers club. It’s basically like a casino. I had a Toohey’s Extra Dry and Eric had a Lemon Squash. We played several games of Keno, but didn’t win big!! We had better luck at heads or tails than we did Keno.

When we left there, we drove by Eric’s old house and where Eric used to walk his dog. Then we went on to Bruce and Cheryl’s house. They have 5 kids!!!!!!! They are rednecks!! We had a nice visit with them. Bruce is the first Aussie I have met that loves Country music. We talked about music and the kids. Eric invited Bruce and crew to the engagement party.

We drove past the Lake that will have the olympic rowing and past the Olympic Stadium. The stadium is huge!!!!!!

November 18, 1997

Eric picked me up and we had Chicken Kababs for lunch. They were soooooo good!!!! We went and sat in a little park and ate them. They are soooooo messy!!!!!!!

After Eric finished at Roseville school, we went to see Nanna. She was glad to see us and we told her about our weekend away. We had coffee and tea with her and buns with jam. She showed us some old pix and we had a great visit.

November 19, 1997

We had leftover sloppy joe for lunch. It was nice the second time around.

Eric and I went to test drive a Mini. It was so cute!! British Racing Green with stripes on the hood and a white top!! It was soooooo little!!!! It felt like we were sitting onthe ground.

I made Stuffed Bell Peppers for supper. Eric had never had them before. He enjoyed them. They were nice for a change.

November 20, 1997

Eric went to the doctor middle ear infection.

November 21, 1997

I called Nanna and had a nice little chat to get her excited about the engagement party coz she had been a little down. I cooked for Jan, John, Freda, and Wal. I made gumbo, red beans and rice, chicken quesadillas, and beef tacos. We also had cheese and salsa dip. Everything turned out better than I thought it would. When we got to Freda’s, she and Jan started slicing lettuce, tomatoes, and grating cheese. served the food in courses, and everyone enjoyed it. The visit with everyone was great!! We had a nice time and it was great to see Jan and John again.

We brought the new photo album, so we got to show it to everyone. Jan gave us some pictures to add to it. They enjoyed looking through the pictures and seeing where we’ve been and what we’ve been doing.

While we were at Freda and Wal’s Eric turned to come in the kitchen and hurt his back.
